Monthly Digest: January

Wow, it has been a really awesome and active January! The move from my old blog to restart my blogging habits has worked, and I hope I can keep this activity level up. My goal for this year is to read 50 books, but it looks like I need to revise that goal. I managed to make some lovely bookish friends thanks to the Winter Wishes read-a-thon, and now I want to participate in more read-a-thons! If you know of one, let me know. :) Another great blog milestone is reaching 72 followers on Bloglovin! Thank you so much! The […]

Review 50: Truly, Madly, Deadly (Hannah Jayne)

I love a good mystery, and this book really brings a good psychological thriller to the table. Hannah skilfully balances Sawyer’s inner personal troubles, the creepy atmosphere of some unknown danger, and the fast-paced unravelling of the mystery. Once the perpetrator was revealed, I just had to go “Whoa. Wasn’t expecting that!” First of all, the book runs a little bit shorter than the others I’ve been reading lately. The story is very fast-paced, even though it spends a good amount of time focusing on Sawyer’s family and some high school drama. The twists came out of nowhere, and all […]

Talk To Me 05: The Book Hangover effect

Do you ever wonder if the order in which you read books affects how you judge each one? I mean, given a bunch of standalone books, you’re bound to have some hits or misses with that group. What if you read a really good book to start yourself off? Does that end up “setting the bar” for the rest of the books in that group? Allow me to explain what happened with me. After a rather long lull of not reading many Young Adult novels, I picked up a few to help me restart this blog. The first one I […]

Review 49: Attachments (Rainbow Rowell)

I’ve heard a lot about Rainbow Rowell and her writing and, after reading Attachments, I’m surprised it took me this long to read one of her books! This book was cute, funny, and sweet. The writing style alternates between the e-mail thread of Beth and Jennifer, and the life of the quiet computer nerd, Lincoln. I found the story to be a nice easy read that’s perfect when you just want to kick back and relax. The conversation between Beth and Jennifer shows the fun dynamic between the two ladies, and it was a new way of getting to know […]

Weekly Digest 02

Hey, everyone! Welcome to my second weekly digest, containing information about what’s up in my blog world and my flight through the blogosphere. :) Let’s get started! This week on RMA: I reviewed Stephanie Perkins’ Anna and the French Kiss, and got a whole slew of interesting comments. Thanks for being so understanding, fans of the book! I love it when people with differing opinions of a book can have a nice chat. I asked you how long before you mark a book as Did Not Finish. Everyone was all across the board for this, but one of the things […]

Review 48: The Eternity Cure (Julie Kagawa)

Allison Sekemoto just cannot catch a break. This is what I got from reading the second book in Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series. There is a lot thrown at her in this book, encompassing all sorts of emotions. There’s treachery and betrayal, pain and sorrow, and even desire and love in there. It was great to read how she grew in the first book, and it’s still as enjoyable to read her development in this book. The story is one of those that you just cannot put down. There’s a lot more action and horror in this one. Which is […]

Talk To Me 04: How long before you DNF?

I try my hardest not to throw a book into my “did not finish” pile. Even if I really do not enjoy it, I try to power through the last few bits. However, there are times when it just gets too much and I end up asking myself “Okay, Ana. Why do you even bother?” Why? Well, I seem to hold on to a glimmer of hope that the book might somehow get better. Maybe that character that I really REALLY dislike will undergo that very important character development. Maybe that development will be awesome and they will end up […]

Review 47: Anna and the French Kiss (Stephanie Perkins)

I’m actually a bit afraid to be posting this review. This book is one of those that a lot of my blogger friends have raved about. I’ve seen this make so many lists of “favourite books” and the hype surrounding it just seems to be monumental. However… I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. I understand the appeal, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think that this type of story is for me. First, the good bits. It was cute, I suppose. I can definitely see this as a romcom of some kind. There are […]
