July Monthly Digest: Being back & looking forward

Ana’s Month This month, I was back in more ways than one: Back to my home country Back to work Back to blogging I was able to visit my wonderful home country this month, which made me really happy. I got to see family and friends I had not seen in years, catch up with them, eat lots of good food, and take plenty of photos. It’s amazing to talk to my old friends again. We laughed about our younger selves, especially our drama that felt SO REAL when we were younger, but we just laugh about now. Oh, younger […]

Talk to Me 76: Note-taking while you read

I love taking notes. In class, note-taking helped me focus on ideas that were being thrown at me during the lecture. I remember reading somewhere that note-taking helps you remember things. I don’t remember the source. Probably should have taken notes. :P But anyway, today I want to talk about taking notes while reading. Something that I don’t actually do. Well, I usually don’t take notes, but sometimes I do. Let’s chat about when I don’t take notes against when I actually do! Not Taking Notes Because I am lazy want to relax! When I’m reading, I’m usually chilling in bed, […]

Review 179: Champion (Marie Lu)

Warning: This review may contain unwarranted levels of flail. At least for someone like Ana. :P OKAY. OKAY, MARIE LU. TAKE MY HEART WHY DON’T YOU AND SMASH IT ON THE FLOOR. This book. No, this series. I started off curious but pleasantly surprised, then that evolved into full blown “I love this series anD HOW DARE IT WRECK ME IN THIS MANNER?!” Really, I was actually so in love with this book and I reacted so strongly to the things that were happening. Especially when it came to Day and June. OH, THE ROMANCE. Dear readers, you know that […]

Book Breaktime: Breaks (of the blogging and life kind)

Looking back, I seem to take blogging breaks on a semi-regular basis. Whether intentional or not, I seem to take at least a month off each year when it comes to blogging. (Except at the tail end of 2013 when life just overwhelmed me, oops!) I feel that when it comes to anything you do, a break can be a good thing. When I take a break from doing some work, or blogging, or even just being with people, I can be alone with my thoughts and sort them out. I believe that life is about balance, and trying to […]

Review 178: Prodigy (Marie Lu)

Consider this series a new addition to “Ana’s Favourites” because I was thoroughly absorbed by this book, and by this series. The last time I did a frantic “run out to the bookstore to purchase the next books because the first book was so good” kind of run was in 2011 with The Hunger Games. :P Seriously folks, this series has got me hooked. I don’t think it’s perfect, but I do think it’s good enough to warrant a breaking of my book-buying ban. Onto to an actual review: Prodigy is an excellent follow-up to Legend, picking up where the […]

Talk to Me 75: ARC Attention-grab!

I’m not a power user of Netgalley or Edelweiss at all. Sometimes I even forget they exist. But when I do actually go on then, I tend to be rather selective of the ARCs that I request because I want to minimise my risk of picking up a sub-par book and then feeling like I have to trudge through it. :| BUT! Today, I want to know: what grabs you about an ARC? What makes you go from… To… What grabs me about an ARC? Let’s list! The genre. As I type this, I am browsing the Sci Fi & Fantasy […]

Review 177: Legend (Marie Lu)

This was another whim read (or “listen” because I used the audiobook), and it really paid off. I was totally absorbed in the world of Day and June, in the stark differences in how they live, and in what they believe in when it comes to the Republic. Lu does an excellent job in this thrilling and action-packed dystopian title, and it was actually this book that got me to break my book buying ban, haha! I bought the second book in the series before I had even finished the first one. That’s how much I enjoyed this, and how […]

Review 176: Kitty Hawk and the Icelandic Intrigue

I didn’t really love this book as much as I did for the other books in the Kitty Hawk series, sadly. Maybe because the “lesson” was a bit more heavy-handed compared to the other books. Additionally, I saw the mystery’s solution way early in the book. Still, I enjoyed to hear about different countries and Iceland is a country that I know very little about. What did I really love? The descriptions of Iceland, of course! And Kitty Hawk showing her smarts and strength, especially because she gets into something way more dangerous in this book. There seemed to be […]

Read Play Blog: Conventions!

Read Play Blog is a meme about video games and books, posted every 16th of the month. Bloggers are encouraged to answer a discussion question, and recommend a video game that is similar to a book they liked. Hosted by Happy Indulgence & Read Me Away. July: What geek conventions have you been or would like to attend? I don’t go to geek conventions a lot, and it’s mainly because there aren’t many big conventions near where I am located. I do love the atmosphere of a convention, but my participation in a con is pretty passive. I dress up, walk […]

Talk to Me 74: The Chosen One’s Best Friend

So, the Chosen One. The Golden Child. The one who that ancient prophecy references. The one who will save the world… But what about the Chosen One’s friends? While their best friend faces certain doom, do they go along for the ride? Or do they bid their best friend “good day and good luck,” then go home for a life of normalcy? I’ve always wondered about a book that is written from the perspective of the Chosen One’s best friend. One thing I love in books is well-written friendships between the protagonist and their friends, and I think it would […]
