Talk To Me 62: Reading Updates

Posted March 18, 2015 by Ana in Talk To Me! | 11 Comments

Reading updates, liveblogging, live-tweeting, or whatever you call it, I like seeing (almost) live reactions of friends to books that they’re reading. Especially if it’s a book that I have read, and I totally know what’s in store for them. :P

When I post my reading updates, I normally use Goodreads. I like GR because it has a neat little percentage tracker on the app and I can have all my updates in one place. For example:

All of my updates, all of my live reactions in one place. :)

Why do I like doing reading updates?

  • They can serve as notes for my reviews. Sometimes a thought occurs to me about the themes or characters of the book and I want to jot it down before moving in.
  • It can show how I did/didn’t warm up to a story that started off as lukewarm. I know how far I got into the story before my thoughts on it changed.
  • It’s fun! It’s just nice to share my thoughts as it happens in the book. :D

Goodreads or Twitter?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while. Sure, GR does cross-post your updates to Twitter but it only does one every thirty minutes. I get lazy about copy-pasting my status updates to Twitter. I just want to get back to the book right away! O:

What about you, dear reader?

Do you like making and/or reading updates? What platform do you normally use?

Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hahah I love live-tweeting/live-status updating, but I don’t do it often enough because I usually read so little or so much, so I either don’t get any feels from the little amount of pages I read, or I just finish the book and that is that. Honestly, I would just do both haha. I mean, just in situation because I don’t care much. gah. I like both Twitter and Goodreads. I am no help to solving your problem hahaha.

I actually don’t use Literally as much as I would like, I might start checking it out again because of your comment. :D

  2. I love when people post live updates as it just gives me a flavour of the book. And it’s even more fun when it’s one I’ve read and I get their reaction to the plot twists! I use GR and have it cross post to twitter, just because it’s handy really. And yes, so usefully to be reminded of my progress updates when writing a review too.

  3. I don’t often do reading updates as I am not sure what to say. I might update my % on goodreads, but hardly add text. I know it woudl be fun to talk about the book I am reading, but I don’t write down my thoughts until I finished reading. I always feel so lame saying only I am enjoying this so far. I do want to get more active with reading updates and it’s fun to see all your updates on a row. Sometimes it’s also that I simply have no clue at which page or percentage I am and thus I don’t update at all.

I always add text to my updates, because it’s usually my reaction. Haha!

Yeah! Then I don’t feel bothered to actually calculate the page/percentage sometimes. :P
